Biography

As a Research Associate in the Social Work Department, Dr. Jennifer Shaw earned her MS in Clinical Psychology from NSU and her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Texas A&M University-Commerce. Prior to joining the Social Work department, Dr. Shaw taught at NSU in the psychology department and provided mental health services in the community. Dr. Shaw’s practice experience includes providing mental health counseling for children and families and working with disadvantaged populations. Dr. Shaw’s published research is varied and includes interpersonal relationships (Brooks, Reysen, & Shaw, 2017), intimate relationships (Reysen, Shaw, & Brooks, 2015) and fandoms (Shaw, Plante, Reysen, Roberts, & Gerbasi, 2016; Reysen & Shaw, 2016). Several of these have included presentations at national and regional conferences, as well. These experiences have afforded her the opportunity to work with undergraduate students to help them understand research design, data collection, statistical procedures, and conference presentations. Dr. Shaw also began the Gowns for Grads regalia closet at NSU in 2021 and operates it with donations from graduates, alumni, the NSU family, and the community.
