Biography
Meryn A. Olivier, DNP, FNP-C, APRN has been a full time Assistant Professor of Nursing since Fall 2024 and an adjunct professor for Northwestern State University since 2022. Dr. Olivier began her healthcare career as a registered nurse in 2007, specializing in the critical and intensive care patients and specifically cardiovascular intensive patients. Dr. Olivier has practiced as a Family Nurse Practitioner since 2015 in the orthopedic setting, and more recently within the urgent care setting in which she continues to practice part time. Dr. Olivier currently teaches within the DNP core curriculum with courses such as Organizational Theory and Systems Leadership, Healthcare Policy: Analysis, Advocacy, and Transformation, and Information Systems Technology. She currently is the coordinator for the DNP Project Practicum courses as well. In her history as a nurse educator she has taught both undergraduate and graduate students such topics as Health Assessment, Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, Adult Health, Leadership and Business Principles, and Health Policy. She has been awarded the Academic Affairs Award for Teaching Excellence at Nicholls State University previously.
Dr. Olivier maintains active memberships in the American Nurses Association, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Louisiana Association of Nurse Practitioners, and Sigma Theta Tau International. She has also been inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society and Mortar Board Honor Society. She maintains certifications with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, the American Heart Association (BLS, ACLS, PALS), and is a National Certified Medical Examiner.
Dr. Olivier completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2007 at Nicholls State University, her Masters of Science in Family Nurse Practitioner at Nicholls State University in 2015, and her DNP in Organizational Systems Leadership at Northwestern State University in 2021. Her areas of research interest are broad, including both the academic and the practice setting. These research topics include Primary Care/Family Practice Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, the role of technology in educational advancement, interprofessional education and collaboration, active learning strategies for online learners, and the use of AI to enhance the learning experience.
