Biography

Deborah Hickman, MSN, RN, CNE currently teaches in the Associate of Science in Nursing program at Northwestern State University and holds the rank of Assistant Professor. Hickman has been a practicing registered nurse since 1992. and her clinical experience includes caring for geriatric psychiatric patients, laboring mothers in the OB/GYN department, patients with unexpected life events in the emergency department and medical surgical patients. During her nursing career, Hickman served as the Administrator and Director of Nurses for an inpatient geriatric psychiatric facility.

D. Hickman completed her Associate of Science Degree at Louisiana State University in 1992. Hickman earned a Bachelors in Nursing degree in 2001 and a Masters in Nursing Education degree in 2004 from Northwestern State University. She is certified by the National League for Nursing (NLN) as a Nurse Educator. In addition, she has held certifications from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a certified psychiatric mental health nurse.
