Biography

Heather S. Hayter, DNP, MSN, RN is an Associate Professor of Nursing at Northwestern State University (NSU). She currently serves as RN to BSN Program Coordinator, Professional Development Committee Chair, and Accredited Provider Program Director. From 2012–2021 and again in 2023–2024, she also held the role of Continuing Education Coordinator.

Dr. Hayter earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2005 and her Master of Science in Nursing in Adult Health Nursing Education in 2009, both from NSU. Her nursing practice experience includes work at Willis Knighton Health Center in Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Oncology, Pain Management, Women’s Health, Pediatrics, Urology, and Endocrinology. She began her teaching career in 2009 as an Assistant Professor of Nursing at NSU’s College of Nursing and Allied Health.

Over her academic career, Dr. Hayter has taught in several programs within the College of Nursing and currently teaches in the RN to BSN program. She completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice in Organizational Leadership at NSU in 2022 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2023.
