Biography
Dr. Fultz graduated from Indiana University in 2023 with a PhD in Social Work. He holds a Master of Social Work from Western Kentucky University (2011) and a Bachelor of General Studies in Social Studies from Louisiana College (2006). Prior to and since joining Northwestern State University, Dr. Fultz has practiced social work in the areas of mental health treatment, non-profit leadership, end-of-life/palliative care, gerontology, and most recently child welfare training and program development. Dr. Fultz joined Northwestern State University and the Social Work Department in August of 2013 and has served as the lead evaluator for the Department pertaining to national accreditation and institutional effectiveness. Dr. Fultz has taught primarily in the research series at NSU as well as other practice courses. He has taught in both BSW and MSW courses in Louisiana, Indiana, and Kentucky.
Since 2019, Dr. Fultz has served as the Director of the NSU Title IV-E Program and as the Statewide Program Manager of the Louisiana Title IV-E Scholars Program. As the Director and Program Manager, Dr. Fultz works with a team of professionals here at NSU and across the State of Louisiana to prepare social work and other professionals to work effectively in child welfare. Beginning in July of 2025, Dr. Fultz will move into a new role as an Assistant Professor of Social Work for the new NSULA MSW program and the Executive Director of the Title IV-E Program, overseeing staff and faculty who work to ensure the success of the Title IV-E Program together.
Areas of Research: Pedagogy and Adult Learning, Program Development and Program Evaluation, Macro Social Work, Clinical Social Work, and Identity Development.
