Biography
I am married and the mother of 3 daughters, 4 grand daughters, and one grandson. Spending time with my family and friends are the things that bring me joy. I am active in my church and a community organization called Image Changers. I am also a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Society, ANA, LSNA, and SNA. I started my career in 1986 as an LPN. After working as an LPN in long-term care for approximately 5 years I began to pursue an associate degree in nursing at Northwestern State University Shreveport. I obtained my ASN in 1991 and later obtained my BSN in 2000 at Northwestern State University, Shreveport. I have worked in various nursing roles from staff nurse up to Chief Nursing Officer at LSU Health Shreveport. My primary area of practice is medical surgical nursing. I have experience in caring for patients in the ICU, orthopedics, oncology, and neurosurgical setting. I have minimal experience caring for pediatric patients. While being employed at LSUHSC of Shreveport, I was part of the administrative team when we transitioned from public to private care. The hospital transitioned from LSUHSC-S to University Health and finally to LSU Health. These were very challenging times but, I survived. I was employed there for 27 years. While being employed there, I obtained a Master Degree in Nursing Administration from the Louisiana State University in New Orleans. I transitioned from acute care to the academic setting in June of 2020. Becoming a professor in the NSU School of Nursing has be a lifelong dream. It has been a pleasure to be a part of such a great staff and to be able to impart some of the knowledge that I have gained with nursing students. I look forward to working here for several years until my time of retirement. My goal as an assistant professor is to help every student to be successful in reaching their goal of becoming a registered nurse, to encourage them and to help them build upon their skills as they transition through the various levels of their nursing education.
