Biography

Molly Blair is a dedicated educator and researcher in music education, known for fostering positive, student-centered learning environments. Originally from Lincolnton, North Carolina, Dr. Blair developed a love for music early and graduated with honors from Western Carolina University, where she served as Woodwind Coordinator for the Sudler Trophy-winning Pride of the Mountains Marching Band and studied flute with Dr. Eldred Spell.

Dr. Blair taught middle and high school band in North and South Carolina for 12 years, during which her ensembles consistently earned Superior ratings. She was recognized with the ASBDA Ed Rooker ENCORE Award in 2017. Throughout her teaching career, she has maintained an active marching band technician and adjudicator schedule, as well as a private flute studio.

In 2018, she and her husband, Andrew, moved to Georgia for graduate studies at the University of Georgia, where she earned both her master’s and PhD in music education. At UGA, she served as a graduate teaching assistant at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, worked with the Redcoat Marching Band, and conducted the Symphonic and Concert Bands. Her research focuses on student self-talk, beliefs about musical ability, and creating supportive music classrooms.

Currently living in Natchitoches, Louisiana, Dr. Blair is Assistant Professor of Music Education at Northwestern State University, where she continues to contribute to the music education community through presentations and active memberships in LMEA, SCMEA, GMEA, NCMEA, and SMTE.
