Biography
Jessica Ashworth Despino, MSRS, RT(R)(MR), serves as clinical coordinator and assistant professor in the Radiologic Sciences program within Northwestern State University's School of Allied Health. An NSU alumna, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences in 2013 and her Master of Science in Radiologic Sciences in 2019. Since joining the faculty in 2020, she has led clinical education efforts, delivered didactic instruction, mentored students, and contributed to scholarly pursuits through research, publications, and professional presentations. She maintains active clinical practice as a PRN Diagnostics/MRI Technologist at Rapides Regional Medical Center, applying her expertise in advanced imaging, patient safety, and quality care across diverse healthcare settings. Holding ARRT certifications in Radiography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging, along with Louisiana licensure, she brings extensive practical experience to her academic role.
Jessica Despino demonstrates strong commitment to professional leadership, service, and excellence in radiologic sciences education. She holds key roles in state organizations, including Secretary of Membership for the Louisiana Society of Radiologic Technologists (LSRT) and leadership positions in related committees and task forces. At NSU, she contributes to curriculum development, assessment, policy, and student support initiatives. Her dedication to community engagement includes educational outreach, career exploration events, and expert judging in regional competitions. Widely recognized for her contributions, she has received prestigious honors such as the NSU CONSAH Educator of the Year award, Excellence in Teaching recognition, and competitive grants for innovative educational resources. She has delivered presentations at national and regional conferences on topics ranging from active learning strategies and data-driven improvements to patient communication and registry success, while also co-authoring scholarly work on professionalism in the field.
