Biography

Patricia A.  Akins MSN RN is an Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing and Sciences in Allied Health. Her clinical background is adult critical care nursing and medical - surgical nursing. She has been teaching in both clinical and classroom nursing courses since 1981, first  at NSU in the ASN and BSN programs and for 10 years at Baylor University in Dallas, Texas.  Currently she is teaching at the second and fourth levels of the BSN program. 

Ms. Akins graduated from NSU in 1979 with a BSN and in 1987 with an MSN. She has contributed to several NCLEX and nursing textbooks and is currently working on a project directed toward making Next-Gen NCLEX practice questions more available to faculty and students. 

Ms. Akins is the proud mother one son,  NSU graduate  Micheal Cade, who lives and works in New Orleans, Louisiana as a Registered Nurse in the Trauma Intensive Care  Unit.
